At present, one of the most outstanding Czech tenors Tomas Cerny performs as a guest soloist on Czech and European opera stages. Besides his numerous appearances at the National Theatre Opera in Prague and the Prague State Opera Tomas Cerny performed in 2012 at the European House of the year 2009 and 2010 Theater Basel (Janacek’s Katya Kabanowa) furthermore at Opernhaus Zürich (2010) and at Staatstheater Nürnberg (2013) as The Prince from Dvorak’s Rusalka and at Staatstheater Stuttgart in 2008 as Laca Klemen in Calixto Bieito’s production of Janacek’s Jenufa etc. Under the baton of Manfred Honeck Mr Cerny sang the tenor part of Dvorak’s Stabat Mater with the Czech Philharmonic in 2011.

Tomas Cerny is specialized in Dvorak’s concert repertoire and is internationally acclaimed for singing tenor parts in Stabat Mater, Requiem and The Spectre’s Bride. In 2011 recording of Dvorak’s Requiem (ArcoDiva) was awarded prestigious mark of Tokusen (Exclusive Recommendation) in Japan in 2011. Tomas Cerny was awarded the Czech Thalia 2000 Prize for the the main part in Lehar's Land of Smiles and The Festival Opera 2005 Prize for the best interpretation of the title role - Edgardo from Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor.

After the Masterclass in 2006 with Prof. Margreet Honig he has been improving his voice performance with her. He has also worked on bel canto technique with the soprano Christina Vasileva lately. Since 1997 he had studied with Prof. Jiri Kotouc and since 2002 with Prof. Svatava Subrtova.

On opera stages, he has created a number of important roles of the Czech as well as world tenor repertoire such as Don José (Bizet - Carmen), Cavaradossi (Puccini - Tosca), Rodolfo (Puccini – La Boheme), Pinkerton (Puccini - Madama Butterfly), Lohengrin (Wagner), Loris Ipanoff (Giordano - Fedora), Alfredo (Verdi - La traviata), Laca (Janacek - Jenufa), Boris (Janacek – Katya Kabanowa), The Prince (Dvorak - Rusalka), Jenik (Smetana - The Bartered Bride) etc.

He takes successfully part in prestigious international festivals, e.g. Dresdner Musikfestspiele, Milano Musica, Prague Spring, International Festival of Contemporary Music Warsaw Autumn and at opera stages, e.g. Komische Oper Berlin, Staatstheater Wiesbaden or Slovak National Theatre in Bratislava. He has worked with the conductors such as Jiri Belohlavek, Manfred Honeck, Enrico Delamboye, Gabriel Feltz, Vladimir Fedoseyev, Jacek Kaspszyk, Marc Piollet, Helmuth Rilling or Carl St. Clair.

During his career, Tomas Cerny has performed in concerts all across the world; the places of his appearances stretch from Tokyo Oji Hall cross most of the European countries to Palacio de Bellas Artes in Mexico City. He has co-operated with orchestras such as Czech Philharmonic (Dvorak’s Requiem), Tonhalle Orchester Zürich (Dvorak’s The Spectre’s Bride), Warsaw Philharmonic (Dvorak’s Stabat Mater), Gewandhaus Orchester Leipzig (Verdi’s Requiem), Bremer Philharmoniker (Dvorak’s Stabat Mater), The Brabants Philharmonic Orchestra (Dvorak’s Stabat Mater), Odensee Symfony Orchestra (Dvorak’s Requiem), Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano Giuseppe Verdi (Verdi‘s Requiem), Orquesta Nacional de España (Martinu’s Gilgames), Royal Liverpool Philharmonic (Dvorak’s Stabat Mater), RAI Torino Orchester etc.
